In his personal experience of living in Dubai, Ananth Kumar S reflects on his one-and-a-half-year journey, his career in real estate, and his personal growth. He also offers valuable tips for young people aspiring to move to Dubai.
After COVID-19, life threw me into a whirlwind of challenges. As a single person, I grappled with financial instability and job uncertainty. I often wondered how married folks managed their hurdles when I was barely treading water. Amidst this chaos, an opportunity to work in Dubai presented itself. I had heard stories about Dubai being incredibly beautiful, a dream destination, and the best place to live in the world. People also spoke about the strict laws and the luxurious lifestyle. Experiencing it firsthand, however, was a different ball game.
Adapting to a New World
Landing in Dubai was a mixed bag of excitement and trepidation. The destination was new, the people were different, the culture was unfamiliar, and the laws were strict. I missed the social attachments of India intensely, and I still do sometimes. However, Dubai has a way of wrapping you in its unique charm.
It’s been 1 year and 6 months since I started working as a Property Manager (Consultant) at Impressive Real Estate LLC. Initially, I was worried about the basics—housing, food, and adapting to a culture so distinct from India’s. But I quickly discovered a vibrant Indian community here, making the transition smoother. Many Indians have been settled here for years, offering a comforting familiarity. This also means we get a steady flow of Indian clients eager to invest in their dream properties. Speaking in our native language makes consultations easier and discussing budgets a breeze.
Weekends: Cricket and Cultural Festivities
Weekends in Dubai are an exhilarating blend of sports and cultural festivities. Cricket and badminton are our go-to activities, creating a bond beyond work. Our all-Indian team shares not just the love for sports but also their experiences and dreams for a brighter tomorrow. Clients trust our suggestions and budgeting advice, relying on us to turn their property dreams into reality. At the weekends, we also get many clients for property-related inquiries, as they are available on Saturdays and Sundays without work tension.
Our community isn’t just about business and sports; we also organize cultural and service-oriented events, extending support during crises like floods by providing essentials. Events like Kannada Rajyotsava, Sangeetha Sourabha, Talent Hunts, Sankranthi Utsav, and cricket tournaments keep our cultural roots alive and thriving. Hosting President Narendra Modi during the Ahlan Modi event was a highlight, reflecting the strong Indian presence and enthusiasm here.
The Culinary Haven and Networking
Food, an integral part of our lives, finds its haven on Karama Street, bustling with Indian restaurants. It’s a culinary journey that brings a piece of home to this desert city. We’ve also hosted B2B events for budding entrepreneurs, fostering networking and growth in Dubai’s competitive market.

Dubai’s efficiency, especially in emergencies, is commendable. Last month, I witnessed a cement mixer accident. Within minutes, emergency services arrived, showcasing their rapid response and efficiency. Witnessing the rapid response and respect for pedestrians here is truly reassuring.
Every Sunday, our cricket ritual begins at the crack of dawn at Dubai Silicon Oasis Ground. The 4:30 AM wake-up call is brutal, but the camaraderie and competition make it worthwhile. Post-match, we indulge in a hearty breakfast at our favorite Indian restaurant. Monthly birthday celebrations add a personal touch, reinforcing our tight-knit community.
Embracing the Dubai Experience
Living in Dubai has been an exhilarating journey. From navigating the real estate market to immersing myself in cultural festivities, I’ve grown both personally and professionally. If you’re thinking about relocating, dive into the adventure with an open heart. Trust me, Dubai has a way of turning worries into wonderful experiences.

The city is a melting pot of cultures, with people from all over the world coming here to work and do business. If you’re planning to come to Dubai for a job, my suggestions are; be confident in yourself, be smart with locals, and be competitive in the market. Success will be yours. To help Indians, there is an Indian Society where members can assist with short-term stays, establishing job links, and more.
Life here is fast-paced, exciting, and always full of surprises. The early challenges have set the stage for a truly rewarding and enriching journey. Here’s to more cricket matches, cultural events, and the endless pursuit of dreams in this incredible city!
