Dileep M. Gowda, an ordinary individual with extraordinary dreams, aspires to build an inclusive community. Born in a small town near Hassan, Karnataka, he spent much of his formative years in an area where English medium schools were non-existent and basic city amenities like electricity and infrastructure were considered blessings.

Challenging the Norms

As a child, Dileep was told that only three professions were worth pursuing: engineer, doctor, or civil services. However, he dreamt of becoming an actor and moved to Bangalore to explore theatre, despite lacking support from his family. Coming from a farming background, he had to work to sponsor his dreams. At 17, he started working as a housekeeping boy and a security guard to afford his education.

Building a Career and a Vision

After completing his post-graduation, Dileep began working in an MNC in the Human Resources function. His humble beginnings inspired him to think about how he could help rural youths earn and complete their education in cities. This noble philosophy drove him to build a successful career and start his own venture, Right Track Corporate Service.

With an initial capital of Rs. 2 lakh from his savings and the unwavering support of his wife, Keerthi, Dileep took the risk of creating employment opportunities for rural youth. He notes that Karnataka’s unemployment rate is approximately 26.3%, with 8.3% being high school and college dropouts.

Overcoming Rural Challenges

Dileep Gowda’s Journey: From Security Guard to Visionary Leader

Dileep believes young people in rural regions face more challenges than their urban counterparts. Factors such as reduced educational and physical resources, limited employment options, significant cultural differences around age and gender, low access to transportation and technology, limited health services, and weak market segments all contribute to pulling rural youth down.

However, he emphasizes that rural youth are highly motivated and gifted. “Although it takes more time to train and develop skills, once they are proficient, they excel,” he says. Dileep finds that local opportunities allow rural youth to save more money as they stay home and work, and his staff has shown great enthusiasm for their jobs.

The Call for Social Entrepreneurship

Dileep calls on more corporates to join as social entrepreneurs, stating that it brings immense joy to make a difference in people’s lives and be a change element for the nation. He quotes, “If you want to make a change in your society, here is the place to be. The job is difficult, but as you progress, you will meet like-minded individuals who will gladly assist you. The joy of making a change and gaining the goodwill of people makes it as whole worthwhile.”

A Message for Aspiring Youth

At the end of our conversation, Dileep shares a message for young people striving to build a successful future: “Success requires unwavering dedication and perseverance. The journey to achieving your vision is arduous and often only visible to you. Remember to be kind to yourself during this climb. As you progress, you’ll understand that this is a continuous journey. Instead of striving for perfection, aim to make steady improvements.”
