WeaverStory, the luxury handloom brand celebrated for its dedication to India’s artisanal heritage, has unveiled its latest masterpiece—The Venkatagiri Revival Collection. This collection will be launched on National Handloom Day (August 7, 2024) and is part of a major collaboration with Antaran, a craft based livelihood initiative by Tata Trusts. The collection breathes new life into the traditional art of Venkatagiri sarees, featuring designs that haven’t been woven in over 70 years.

Breathing Life into a Forgotten Craft

The Venkatagiri Revival Collection is part of WeaverStory’s continued commitment to the preservation and revival of india’s traditional weaves. WeaverStory, who has in the past successfully revived heritage textiles like Gethua, Double Weave Brocade, Banarasi Baluchari and others, continues its journey of craft revival with this collection. Antaran has been very instrumental in this mission, working on reviving the beautiful cotton weaves of the Venkatagiri cluster in Andhra Pradesh.

Heart Jala, Rudraksh, Kattan Checks, and Sarada Saree. This collection marks the first phase of an ongoing initiative, with more designs set to be reintroduced in the coming months.

Empowering Artisans and Preserving Heritage

It’s not just the lovely patterns that this revival of traditional weaves has brought back, though, it’s also the chance for local craftsmen and women. Six weavers were brought together for this project, allowing them to refine their skills and reconnect with the craft of their ancestors. These craftsmen are now getting the credit they deserve and reaching new markets and therefore ensuring the continuity of their craft.

“The purpose of our Venkatagiri Revival Project is to protect India’s rich weaving heritage for generations to come. National Handloom Day is an ideal platform to exhibit these revived sarees and also introduce designs which otherwise might have been lost in the sands of time if not timely intervention.
